About Me

Since 2001, Dr. Furchner has dedicated his professional practice to supporting families through the challenges of divorce and separation. With extensive experience as a mediator, child specialist, and parent coach, he has successfully guided many families through complex transitions with care, insight, and skill.

Dr. Furchner has a particular interest in creating developmentally appropriate parenting plans for families with infants and toddlers, and brings specialized expertise in working with children who have developmental or emotional needs. He is a strong advocate for alternative dispute resolution and collaborates closely with attorneys, mediators, and other family professionals to support effective, child-focused outcomes.

In addition to his mediation and collaborative divorce work, Dr. Furchner maintains a private psychotherapy practice where he works with a wide variety of teens and adult clients. He strives to create a safe, supportive space for clients to explore challenges, spark meaningful change, and foster healing. His therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing on humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and other evidence-based methods tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Dr. Furchner has also contributed to the academic and professional community as an adjunct professor at Pacific University’s School of Professional Psychology, where he taught courses in statistics, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and projective assessment. He has served as an expert witness in child custody and parenting time cases and continues to be active as a lecturer, trainer, and supervisor in the field. He is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) and currently serves on Oregon’s State Family Law Advisory Committee.

Dr. Furchner earned his Ph.D. in California before returning to Portland in 1997, where he established his private practice in Northeast Portland. As a working parent, he understands the importance of balance and enjoys staying active by playing basketball, rock climbing, and making music with friends.
